Benjamin Jacob Smith
Benjamin Jacob Smith was born In County Antrim Northern Ireland and Raised in Ballymena.
From an early age Benjamin has been involved in Performing arts, through coral singing and training on productions such as High School Musical with Guildford youth, playing the lead Troy Bolton. His first taste of acting came through these Musical theatre shows and workshops. ( Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, West Side Story, Oliver). This early space to explore creativity safely proved essential to Benjamin in progressing and transitioning into the professional industry and developing his career.
He has trained in many disciplines of performance;
Stage and Screen acting, Motion and Performance capture, circus, singing and physical theatre.
His mentors and tutors are varied;
New York Film Academy, The Lyric Drama Studio, The Imaginarium Studios, Cine-magic, Aircraft Circus School.
Benjamin enjoys exploring different styles of performance as he feels they compliment one another and can be drawn out in different characters.
His on camera work ranges from Short Satirical comedies to powerful commercial dramas. He is a writer and director and runs his own short film productions in between jobs which he says keeps his creative on peak and also his affinity for character building satisfied.
His experience in Mo-Cap, has developed his animal work and creature work, giving his performances a physical edge when called for. Circus training in Acrobatics/Tricking and silks also has equipped him with a better understanding of movement and the power of movement.
Benjamin Jacob Smith champions the experience of travel and experiencing other cultures, having lived in Peru for 6 months, Paris for a summer and London, he values his time spent experiencing life and considers it integral to his performances.
Having spent time in Dan Hubbard’s Casting Office as an Intern he appreciates the audition process and the skill of casting, this experience encouraged and pushed him to be a better actor and artist.
Benjamin is a passionate actor who enjoys finding a characters weakness and vulnerability and then utilizing it by either suppressing it or playing on it, role depending. He works loosely with Stanislavski and Alexander techniques but enjoys exploring other ideas.
